Colorado author & historian

Meet Christie

Christie Wright is a Colorado “semi-native,” having lived in the Centennial State for over 40 years. After retiring from a career in the state’s criminal justice system in Colorado Springs, she volunteered at History Colorado in downtown Denver for several years. She then served as president of the Park County Local History Archives in Fairplay for 8 years. Park County’s history has always fascinated her from the first time she visited Kite Lake in Buckskin Gulch years ago.

Her primary interests are ghost towns, pioneer cemeteries and historic mine sites which she is currently researching and photographing. Christie’s familiarity with the District Court system, combined with her history knowledge, led to her book, “South Park Perils: Short Ropes & True Tales,” (2013, Filter Press, LLC). This is a collection of true murder stories, many unknown, that happened in Park County in the 1800s.

Researching Colorado’s Wild West crimes has culminated in a variety of published articles in the Colorado Central Magazine, the South Park National Heritage Magazine and the Fairplay Flume special editions.

Christie now lives in Northern Colorado and is a member of Women Writing the West, Western Writers of America, the Wild West History Association and the Association for Gravestone Studies. She is available for remote research projects on Park County subjects.
